Leaking showers create a huge amount of damage. A small leak will over time do tremendous damage, destroying timber, walls , flooring, create mould, mildew, causing not only unsightly messes but health issues as well. Unless dealt with quickly and efficiently the damage will continue to expand and can become a health hazard.

There are a number of problems

Kitset showers are easy to put in and assemble but very difficult to get correct. Water can filter through a very small error. There are also issues of shower tray standards, as in most cases you get what you pay for. A few hundred dollars for a good brand is money well spent considering the cost and the stress repairing leaks later. These showers must be installed by trained installers. There must not be any sealant inside the shower as in most cases this will make the problem worse and create mould and mildew.
A large number of older seratone showers are beginning to delaminate. This can be seen as brown stains and rot around the base of the sheet where it meets the shower tray. This allows water in to the wall destroying the wall studs, base plate and lining on the other side of the wall There are a number of options here but the Seratone must be removed and replaced and any damage behind the wall repaired, just using sealant and hope is simply creating a time bomb.

The shower tray is strong with good up stands so the liner can overlap with plenty of sealant to prevent water getting into the back of the shower see diagram from Acceptable Solution E3/AS1 of the building code.
